I just met a dog named “Ohlone.” I asked the guardian why he chose that name? “Because he looked like a wolf”,” the guy responded.
The dog was beautiful, but I wonder why he didn’t name him wolf.
“I’m Ohlone,” I say..
“Oh yea, I’ve heard about you” he replies.
Uhm.. I don’t know how I feel about this…..
After i say “good night” to my 9 year old lil brother he replied “horshah murut”….. I am so proud of him
I love these warm nights. I live living so close to the Bay, and smelling the tule and salt water when the weather is nice. I love knowing that where I live is an ancestral village.
I’m Indian every day. I don’t wake up and choose whether or not it is trendy today, cuz most of the time it’s not. Sadly some people only claim it when it benefits them..
as i read through a lot of the blogs i follow on tumblr, i realize more and more the similarities and struggles we all go through as native folks are similar, but still can be very different based on region and tribe we are from. i think each of us telling our stories is really powerful because it shows how we are all proud of our differing indian identities, but links us and unifies us based on...
Ohlone, but never alone.
– Something I saw one of my friends wrote on their Facebook. I like this.
today was one of those really good days. i felt really connected again with my community, and just being there with other ohlone folks in an old village singing songs, speaking in ohlone language, wearing abalone, making soaproat, acorn, baskets, reclaiming missions was us defying those who think we don’t matter. we know our connection to this place, and really not phased by those we dont...

dear ohlone college students,
when you tag your pseudo-artistic mugshots of yourself in the parking lot, cafes, and library at ohlone college maybe try #ohlonecollege, instead of #ohlone. i always get excited when i see new ohlone tags until i realize it’s just you again. this applies to tumblr, instagram, pintrest, and twitter.
do you realize that the term “ohlone” is more...
I’m really awkward at tweeting, but decided to try it again.. Follow me @sepzenaksi if you want

– A leader in the Ohlone community said to me today. Hahah
Just gave a joint Ohlone welcoming in Chochenyo with Linda Yamane, who gave a greeting in Rumsien at an ancient village site. Feels very nice to be sitting with other Ohlone, we are all very proud..
AAAAGH I WAS FREAKING OUT BECAUSE I COULDN’T FIND MY FAVORITE ABALONE NECKLACE!!
But then I found it.
Ohlone problems.
I hate these stupid socialite events where everyone’s head is up their ass. It is a weird feeling. I am 100 miles from home tonight, but I am still home. Gualcomne, an ancestral village where one of my ancestors is from is near me. A few miles away. Driving here I passed Jalquin, Huchiun, Karkin… These places we will never let go. Our land.
These people don’t understand our...
I always feel weird at these networking events. White folks ask me “are you from this area originally?”
If only they knew…..

As I go through the Harrington notes on Chochenyo on Bart I can’t help but smile with some of these beautiful phrases. “I am going to love her.”
Kinda cool how I can formulate sentences in Chochenyo just off the top of my head. Something I couldn’t have done a year ago. #progress #revitalization #hope
My ex once told me “you Indians always have a chip on your shoulders.. You’re always looking to fight.”
As I reflect on that I feel kinda proud….. Yea we are fighters. Yea we are..
Q: “So I’m not allowed to have a genuine interest in another...

UN to investigate plight of US Native Americans... →
Maybe they will find ou why the US government illegally terminated Ohlone federal recognition…….
I got accepted for a full scholarship for the Breath of Life conference!! A big step for me and my effort to be a part of revitalizing Chochenyo Ohlone, our ancestral language!! WOOHOO :D
Non-Indian: omg, you're an Indian? What's your Indian name?

one year. warep amahin.
wow. as i was going through my archives i noticed today is exactly one year i started this blog. honestly… i gotta admit, for better or worse, i feel pretty proud of it.
last april, one year ago from today, i started this blog because i wanted to document the first person ohlone experience from my own eyes. we are always being studied. anthrpologists want to study our culture, linguists...
I just took a break for lunch, and my coworker Susan had an interesting story for me.
Susan: a group of tourists just visited the Mission from Ireland.
Me: oh yeah?
Susan: yes, they were wondering if any Ohlone still exist! I told them of course they do, that someone who works here just went to lunch, but is a direct descendant of those individuals on the wooden marker.
Me: good. Thank you for saying that.
Susan: they told me they read in a guidebook that all the Ohlone are extinct.
At Oakland A’s baseball game with mom, dad, and brother. As I was walking into the stadium from BART I saw some white folks and Indian folks (non Ohlone) protesting. I found out the protestors were against the Cleveland Indians relating to the whole naming controversy. I realized the organizer of the event was a white ally of our community named Perry, and there was a look of confusion as I...

Changing perceptions @ Mission Dolores
A few pictures of the progress being made at working to change perceptions at Old Mission Dolores by telling the Ohlone story. A major shift from the Spanish-centered focus of the Mission a mere ten years ago. Guided by the mantra “the truth shall set us free,” we have been successfully striving to reclaim Mission Dolores as an Ohlone instituion, and have been telling a true story of...
I wish people would stop mentioning me on instagram. “bored @ Ohlone” gets sickening after a whole.
Ohlone is more than a college, it’s an entire people. #educateyourself
