LIVID AND ANNOYED by the infighting that exists in our community. Instead of working for common interest, we are working against each other. Hearing stories of resistance, of hope, of change, and perseverance at California Indian Museum and Cultural Center event in San Marcos today.
Finished my own clapper stick as those around me learned basketry, to make abalone necklaces, and traditional games while hearing passionate California Indian storytelling and song. We worked together.

Saclan
Today I went to Saclan, the village my great-great-great-great-great-great grandfather, Poylemja, was from. Saclan folks launched one of the largest fights of resistance against the Spanish invaders and never fully gave in to Spanish rule. They did not surrender.
I saw the ancient cupulets that women would use for generations to grind acorns.
I felt good. I felt connected. Driving afterwards...

Today, at work, I wore abalone beads. In the old traditions, they are said to protect us. I felt good today.
